The Elfman Cometh to Cirque du Soleil
Plus: Would Danny ever do a Nightmare Before Christmas stage musical?
Best known for his collaborations with Tim Burton, Danny Elfman faces a whole new challenge soon: the circus. Did you know he's scoring Cirque du Soleil's new show IRIS? Get more detail in GeekChicDaily's full-length Danny Elfman Cirque interview. An excerpt appears below:
GeekChicDaily: How is scoring this project different than working with film?
Danny Elfman: There's no story that I'm following, no dialogue at all, it's just music and image, like you're watching a silent film with the score played with it...I don't have to pay attention to time and place.
GCD: Could we ever see The Nightmare Before Christmas on stage?
DE: Tim [Burton] and I have actually talked about that. Tim thinks - and I agreed with him at that point - that it wouldn't be serviced well on a stage, but I don't know. Stage shows of material like that are a very tricky thing.
GCD: Is there any subject matter that's particularly close to your heart that you'd like to do?
DE: It's just a question of the right material. I would love to do something twisted, of course.
Scare up our full interview with Danny Elfman and check out Iris in Hollywood at the Kodak Theater. Previews begin July 21st.
