Character Transformations in the Dark of the Moon - Sponsored Geekout

Meet the new 'bots. Not the same as the old 'bots.

Every Transformers movie steps it up  from the prior installment and Dark of the Moon is no different, adding 3-D and amping up the action. It also super-charges the cast. Patrick Dempsey, John Malkovich and Frances McDormand are now on board, but the new robots have some lengthy pedigrees too.

Prime Numbers - The mustachioed robot revealed in the first teaser? That'd be Optimus Prime's predecessor Sentinel Prime. Debuted in the '80s comics, he's now a fire truck voiced by Leonard Nimoy, who also played the evil Galvatron in the 1986 animated feature. Nimoy is married to director Michael Bay's cousin Susan and arranged permission to shoot scenes for the first film at Griffith Park Observatory.

Shock and Awesome - The sinister Shockwave began as a Japanese toy named Astro Magnum, who changed into a kid-sized handgun. Super-sized onscreen, the character has traditionally had a coldly logical personality inspired by Star Trek's Spock, who was played by...yep, Leonard Nimoy again.

Feathers Will Fly - The latest Decepticon henchman is a bird-shaped metal monster named Laserbeak. In the original cartoon and toy, this flying fiend concealed itself in the form of a most non-threatening cassette tape. The digital age works wonders, as the upgraded bad bird is now an avian assassin with multiple, more-modern modes.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon morphs minds in theaters everywhere starting today.

Re: Smurf You! Hank Azaria's Gargamel Works Blue

Taking voice talent from The Simpsons for The Smurfs movie? This could be a plus for this movie. Now after finally seeing the CGI Alvin and the Chipmunks finally and Over The Hedge, I guess I can finally stop hating on the CGI adaptations of my favorite childhood movies. Thoughts anyone?

Hank Azaria's Smurftastic Villain

The Simpsons' voice-meister gets gleefully giddy as Gargamel.

Why did Gargamel want to catch the Smurfs anyway? In the cartoon, it was usually about making them ingredients in potions. Ingredients. Hmmm. They're little. They're blue. We bet they taste like blueberries. Mmmmmm. Smurfberry pie with real minced Smurf on top. Maybe we want to catch some too...

Old-school Smurfs fans are divided on the idea of a 3-D live-action movie. We say: why worry? If you're concerned about realism in this case, you should probably take a hearty bite out of a mushroom house, sit back, and enjoy the show. One thing most agree on so far is that Hank Azaria seems to have captured the essence of the evil and inept wizard Gargamel. Sporting hideous prosthetics, the actor known for animation voices (The Simpsons) is now making his next cartoon character out of flesh and bone.

GCD caught up to Azaria at Sony Animation Studios, where he discussed his unique take on the villain and his cat collaborator Azrael: "My idea was that they were [like] a married couple. Instead of making evil pronouncements to nothing, which really annoyed me about the old Gargamel, I wanted him to be more personally involved with the cat and for the cat to be considerably smarter." Azaria was determined to do a different take on his 2-D predecessor, adding an accent and more schtick. The more he practiced, though, he realized he connected with the original balding baddie. After all, he says, "You can't be Gargamel and not get very upset about Smurfs."

Gargamel plays the blues in The Smurfs on-screen starting July 29th.

Captain America: the EPIC BLOCK BUSTER

Alright, Transformers III comes out this week. I'm stoked. I really am. But I'm even more stoked with the  upcoming Captain America movie. So far this summer, we started it off with Thor, X-Men: First Class, The Green Lantern, Transformers: Dark of the Moon tomorrow but the Captain America as a life action movie looks so epic. Thoughts?

Tunes For Tuesday

I used to write for a music blog called Stuck on Loop with my best friend, Sean, but the blog kind of died. It was a blog where we'd write about a song of the day. The songs were mostly a song that one of us would have stuck in our head for the day and we'd review and talk about the song. Well, like I said, we killed that blog because of real life eating us up. Kind of like how I have been quiet on here lately. I've been battling a stomach issue and some other things but now that I'm back in the saddle, I can start this up again and I'd like to start a Tunes For Tuesday where I'd pick a song or a series of songs to write about. For this first edition, I want to keep it related to Ghostbusters and the site. I'm going with The Gaslight Anthem.

Whaa--? How does that relate to either Ghostbusters or the site itself? Well, it's simple. The band is from New Jersey, where the site head quarters are. The song is "That '59 Sound," which has a retro feel to it and 1959 is the year for the Ecto-1's make.

With a Bruce kind of feel to this song, it's a well written modern day classic rock kind of song; but with a dark twist. It's about someone dying on a Saturday night on his or her way to a concert.

My Flash Drive Tech Toolkit

Scott has thrown the idea of doing tech articles at me, so I've figured out a good one. Keeping a good maintenance kit for your PC on your flash drive. Some of the programs I have even run off the flash drive so that it doesn't take up any space on my pc. So, here is my list.

SlimCleaner
SlimDrivers
CCleaner
Defraggler
Recuva

Ok, so SlimCleaner does not unfortunately run off a flash drive. It comes from a relatively new company called SlimWare. It basically cleans up old system files for you and old temporary internet files. It can also analyze your start up programs, and via cloud technology tell you if its harmful, and allows you to turn off start up programs. Now the cloud use is interesting because it allows them to see what other users are doing with other programs and allows them to rate them. Only flaw with this program is no registry cleaner. But according to the company, they didn't put this in because you can mess up your pc if you delete the wrong things in the registry. SlimCleaner also has a nice interface to access your control panel from the program. Which allows you to access many windows maintenance features. This is true. The company also allows users to chat with them via their facebook. They also communicate back, which is a very interesting part of having SlimWare's programs.
Now, SlimDrivers checks your drivers to make sure they are up to date. Also made by SlimWare, it checks the most up to date drivers via cloud. In other words, it literally finds new drivers via it's users. Drivers are what allows your hardware to communicate with your operating system. It too does not run off the flash drive.
CCleaner does a lot of the things SlimCleaner does but also has a registry cleaner, which is a good reason to keep it alongside the SlimCleaner. Cleaning the registry just gives you a little bit more clutter out. This program runs right off your flash drive. Piriform makes this program, and the next two programs im about to mention.
Defraggler is a defragment program to defrag your hard drive. Basically, as you use your computer the files that are more alike spread apart. Defrag brings them closer together. Although you can never get it 100% back to together defraging helps. This program runs off your flash drive as well. Now, windows also has its own defrag tool. However, since vista windows doesn't really show a visual representation of it like windows xp did. That why I like this program. It also goes a lot more in depth showing you your hard drive space, how much is fragmented and things like that.
Recuva is a file recovery program. Basically, if you accidentally delete a file this program can recover it. It's a great little tool that runs off your flash drive.
Best part of all, all these programs are FREE as long as you use them for personal
use.

UPDATE-SlimCleaner is available in a portable flash drive version, its installable
via the normal version of the program.

Ripping Apart...

I'm ripping apart the office desk so I can finally focus and get things up and running. Anyone else ever have days like this?

Aaahh!!! Real Monsters

It's been quite a month. Medically speaking for me. I'm not ill but I'm not well. If that makes sense.  Just the minor medical complications I've had decided to compile. But between working and trying to rebuild myself, I've started to digest Aaahh!!! Real Monsters - a four seasons NickToons series. I plan on doing a real write up for it for Saturday Cartoons as the new format of the site rolls out.

So while I continue to watch this series - anyone have any fond memories?

Well, we're halfway into June and I'm still reworking the kinks and trying to get this site to be altered. I promise it will be up soon with some new additions!

Ubuntu 11.04

So, I just downloaded Ubuntu 11.04 onto my laptop, and it can now boot either ubuntu or windows. For those of you unfamiliar, Ubuntu is an operating system, like windows 7 or mac. But its open source and free.
Now, then new version of ubuntu sports a new layout. The main way you now navigate is a menu bar on the left side, preset with a few programs like firefox and empathy messenger which can link multiple messenger accounts. I feel its a major improvement and a lot more user friendly. The top left button on this menu lets you go into all your programs, and lets you search for them. A huge improvement over the old way of going to the programs in previous versions in which each one was seperated into difference subjects and submenus.
A huge shocker for me was the fact that it downloaded a linux version of ATI catalyst, a driver and program to better control my graphics on the laptop. Pretty impressive as other versions didnt have this. I was instantly impressed.
Ubuntu 11.04 looks nicer too. It kind of competes with windows, even coming with a free office pack from an open source company. I honestly really like this version. It seems they are looking to compete with android.

E3 2011

E3 2011 is in day 4, and many impressive games and gaming technology have been revealed. For those who don't know, E3 is a huge gaming and electronics expo out in California held once every year. Each of the major console developers get their own conferences to reveal what is going to be in development from their companies. Many great games are in development. Twisted Metal, Fable, Halo, Batman, Elder Scrolls are a few games getting new life in their series with a new game release. The new nintendo console was announced, called the Wii U, where the controller resembles a tablet with a touch screen and buttons. Playstation also announced the PSP successor, known as the playstation vita. It's similar to the psp go with dual analog stick, and it will also has 3G capabilities though AT&T.

So has anyone been following E3? What are some of your favorites this year? I like Twisted Metal and Elder Scrolls Skmyrim.

X-Men: The First Class

Last night, at 11:15ish, I picked up one John, one of the writers for this site for his birthday. We went to catch the midnight viewing of the new X-Men movie. Now, this was kind of cool - catching a new Marvel movie at midnight. I did that with Thor. I loved Thor. I did that with the Iron Man movies too. I loved them. I did that with the Spider-Man movies... I was confused if I liked  them. I did that with the other X-Men movies (except for Wolverine). I liked the first one, and from there it was rolling away from me.

Now, I understand the plot of this movie was mainly to show the rift between Charlies and Erik; regarding their opinions of how non-mutants should be treated by the homo-superior. Professor X believed that humans and mutants can get along while Magneto believed that mankind would enslave and exterminate the mutants for being different. Professor X lived a great life; wealth and a nice mansion while Magneto suffered at the hands of the Nazis. His mother was killed right in front of him.

Ok, I get it, directors need to rewrite and rework the regular X-Men universe to work for a movie. Not every movie viewer cares about the source material. The fact that things were changed doesn't take away from the fact that the movie was a good action film. The fact is that they had a Justin Bieber version of Banshee (played by Caleb Landry Jones) kind of was amusing. But the movie felt rushed. It barely touched the creation of the X-Men and the Brotherhood (of Evil Mutants).
