Game On: The Must-Play Games of August

Prepare your wallets for impact.

August has been a good month for gamers so far and it's only getting better. Between the releases of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Persona 4: Arena (which is out today) and the onslaught of pre-orders for the fall's AAA titles, it can be difficult to see the forest for the trees. Well, August ain't over yet and there are still plenty of reasons to celebrate and games to play before school is back in session and Labor Day prohibits us from wearing all-white.

The Last Story - While the rest of the world has been playing RPG trailblazers Hironobu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu's The Last Story for months, we patient players in North America have to wait until August 14th to get our hot little hands on the XSEED Wii exclusive. Let's see: gravity-defying hair, wacky names and a potentially convoluted, but endearing storyline? Sounds like a game from the Final Fantasy creator to us!

New Super Mario Bros. 2 - As if you needed another reason to pick up a Nintendo 3DS, our favorite Italian plumbers are back in business when New Super Mario Bros. 2 drops on August 19th. With robust co-operative gameplay, several new modes and a plethora of hidden stages, this game is a much-needed 1-Up for the end of summer

Journey: Collector's Edition - No, this isn't a compilation of the greatest "Don't Stop Believin'" covers; it's a disc-based collection of thatgamecompany's indie gems turned mainstream hits - flOw, Flower and Journey. Priced at $29.99, this is an absolute steal for three of the most gorgeous games to hit PSN. Don't worry; we'll write you a note so you can get out of work.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure HD - You may want to invest in some good gloves before August 22nd because Jojo's Bizarre Adventure HD is the stuff of which blisters are made. Coming to PSN and XBLA, the classic 2D fighter received an impressive HD facelift and retains all the fun of its highly addictive brawling gameplay. The only bizarre thing about this is that it took them so long to give Jojo an HD makeover.
