Geek this Week: Thy Will Be Done
Also: A mutant decade, John K.'s dad gets animated, and Hawkeye hunted. Podcast Pundit - No, George W. Bush isn't running for office again - that's Will Ferrell as the similarly southern congressman Cam Brady in The Campaign, which opens Friday. We'd never misunderestimate the hirstute humorist, but Chris did invite him on the Nerdist podcast, which was an offer he couldn't refuse. The result will make you want to don a cheerleader outfit and jump for joy.
Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy - John Kricfalusi hopped onto the Nerdist podcast to talk Ren and Stimpy, animation, and his latest project. We were so intrigued by the Ren and Stimpy creator's new effort, Cans Without Labels, we had to follow up with him to get more details. Check out our full interview with John K. to find out how you can help make new George Liquor cartoons a reality and find out what's in the can. Is it peaches?
Power of Ten - Grade-school podcaster Gil Letelier, host of The Mutant Season, turns ten years old today, and L.A. residents can come join the party tonight at Meltdown Comics for a live taping featuring Jonah Ray, Pete Holmes, Justin Willman, Geoff Johns and Matt Bennett. It's only $5, and there will be cake. If partying that early in the week doesn't work out for you -and even if it does - get your TGIF on at a live 4 Points, and see who Alex and Alison have lined up as surprise guests. We'd stop the world to NerdMelt with them.
Taking it to the Matt - So Hawkeye just saved the world from Chitauri invaders - why's everyone trying to kill him all of a sudden? Well, with Matt Damon not continuing in the Jason Bourne movie franchise (for the moment, anyway), somebody had to do The Bourne Legacy. And it wouldn't be a Bourne thriller if the movie plot weren't completely different from that of the book of the same name. Jeremy Renner is Aaron Cross, who has all of Bourne's heightened abilities because "there was never just one." That'll be doubly true if, as expected, fans embrace Renner as an action star this Friday (those Hawkweye action figures by Hasbro are hard to find - maybe customizers are buying them up to ensure they'll be "re-Bourne").
Tree by Three - Rocking the most stylin' 'stache since Tom Selleck last graced the big screen, The Lorax is coming to Blu-ray today with three extra mini-movies in tow: "Forces of Nature," "Wagon-Ho" and "Serenade." Unlike the Danny DeVito-voiced fuzzball, we can't claim to speak for the trees, but as animation fans we will speak up for how much we want to see more Dr. Seuss onscreen. | | | |
