Crossplay Tuesday: The Best Genderbent Cosplay of SDCC 2012
Put your preconceived notions through the gender blender. Comic-Con has come and gone and all we're left with now are head colds and tons of amazing photos. This year, in particular, crossplay seemed to dominate the San Diego cosplay landscape. Ladies tackled male costumes with an Asgardian tenacity – we saw at least a dozen Lady Thors. Not to be outdone, the gentlemen at the convention also brought their A-game with a special brand of humor we thoroughly enjoyed. So, without further adieu, take a look at our top 5 favorite crossplays from Comic-Con.
Lady Wolverine - She's the best at what she does, and what she does isn't pretty. Wait a second, yes it is! Taking yellow leather to a whole new level, this Lady Wolverine took the character in a crafty, burlesque-inspired direction.
Femme Cyclops - Who says clunky eyepieces can't be sexy? This cosplayer stays true to the original character design while still giving it that special crossplay twist. Besides, what con floor doesn't look a little bit happier through rose-colored glasses (okay, technically it's a ruby quartz visor)?
Male Slave Leia and Femme Han - All aboard the Pleasure Barge! Princess Leia's iconic slave costume has become a Comic-Con staple, but this fella adds a hilariously refreshing new twist to the tired ol' metal bikini. As for The Stylish Geek's Han Solo cosplay; we tried telling her it was a great costume, but she just told us, "I know."
Catwoman Fella - Watch out, Anne Hathaway; this guy is gunning for your gig. Guys in girl costumes will probably always be funny to us (long live Man Faye), but we love it even better when said costumes are worn with half as much attitude as this guy possesses. Meow, indeed!
Avenger Bunnies - Now, we'll admit that we're a little bias because our Cosplay Friday featuree Meg Turney is this group's Hawkeye, but even without her participation how could we resist this creative spin on the blockbuster movie cast? Next challenge: Avengers Senshi. C'mon, guys - we believe in you.
